Oxborrow is the First

Former Motoring News road rally navigator and triple BTRDA 1300 class champion and his wife are the first registered contenders for the 2009 Endurance Road Rally Championship.

Malcolm & Elaine Oxborrow bought a 106 rally 18 months ago and will debut the new car in next year's series.

Malcolm is probably best remembered for his exploits in the Metro GTi challenge and the world debut of the MGF in the National Tarmac championship.

Malcolm Oxborrow said: "What has attracted me to Endurance is that it seems value for money and plenty of smiles per mile.

"My first rally was in 1964 and I have done an awful lot in those years but quite simply I cannot afford so called "modern rallies" any more. Endurance seems to recreate the events that I grew up with."

"We intend to do all but one event as it clashes with a family do, but it all really depends on our finances as the only incomes are pensions!!!

"As its going to be all new to us there is no way we can compete with the regulars. My days of being a hero are over, now we just want some affordable FUN.

"We are perfectly happy to make up the numbers. Our theory is to take it steady and try not to make too many mistakes. Maybe that is the way to end up with a half decent result?

"I have tried to build the car to be strong and reliable as its getting ever more difficult to crawl underneath and I don't like getting dirty!!"

We would like to welcome Malcolm to the Endurance scene.
